blink-182 is back

10/02/2009

Plus 44 - News - Blink 182 is back "We used to play music together, and we decided to play music together once again" this is what Travis Barker said at the Grammy Awards show Sunday evening.

And here is what the band posted on its official MySpace :
"Hi. We're blink-182. This past week there’ve been a lot of questions about the current status of the band, and we wanted you to hear it straight from us. To put it simply, We're back. We mean, really back. Picking up where we left off and then some. In the studio writing and recording a new album. Preparing to tour the world yet again. Friendships reformed. 17 years deep in our legacy.

Summer 2009.

Thanks and get ready..."

Mark Hoppus solo project

16/01/2009

Plus 44 - News - Mark Hoppus solo project Here is the second part of the intaerview Mark Hoppus gave to MTV :

On The Future of +44: "To answer your question about the interview at the Woodies — and, by the way, I want to thank everyone at MTV for choosing the most flattering photos possible to go in the article — the reason I wasn't able to answer with a great deal of specificity is that I didn't really know how to say what was going to happen. Since late August of last year, I've been in the studio every week writing songs with the intention of putting out a record of my own. As of this week, I've got about 10 songs in various stages of completion and another 10 ideas that I still want to work on. ... By the way, this interview will be the first time many people at the label are going to hear about the possibility of me doing an album on my own. Hi, Interscope!"

On Going Solo (Sort Of): "Travis has played on a bunch of [my] tracks, and he's working on his own album as well. We totally support each other in whatever we're doing. He's like a brother to me. I see him in our studio every week, and we'll be in the room of the studio he's working in, listening to stuff he's recorded, or he'll come into the room where I'm working and check out my songs. He's played on a bunch of them, and he's asked if I'll play on some of his songs. We collaborate and give each other ideas and support. That's what I meant when I said [in the interview at the Woodies], 'No matter what I work on, Travis will be a part of it.' "

On Just When We'll Get to Hear His Music: "Well, I just co-wrote a song for a movie coming out called 'Fired Up,' [and] the New Found Glory record I produced comes out soon, and I'm super proud of that. Those guys wrote a great album, and I think people will be blown away. There are a bunch of collaborations, producing offers and film and TV projects that I'm working on as well."

Hello Again

20/11/2008

Here is what Mark blogged about the past events that affected him lately.

"hello to you. it's been a long time since i've posted anything here on the himynameismark site. i haven't had it in me. these past two months have been the hardest times that i can remember, and i hope that we never see anything like this ever again. first losing our dear friend and longtime producer jerry finn, and then the plane crash that happened in september, taking our friends chris and che. even two months later, i still can't believe what happened, and it's too much to talk about. but let me say that i think about little chris every single day, and the world is not the same without him. he is one of the best people i've ever known. we travelled the world together, spending countless hours on busses and planes, in hotel lobbies and dressing rooms. we worked together, laughed, and played jokes on people. when i saw him in the studio, no matter if it were with blink-182, +44, or an unknown band i was producing, chris would walk right in, introduce himself, make some jokes, and make sure everyone was taken care of. he made everyone feel at home. like they were family. every person he met was a friend for life, and he could talk to anyone. it didn't matter if it was the biggest star in the world or someone waiting to get into a show, little chris treated everyone as a friend. he was a dear friend to me. i'm so sad that he is not here right now. there are just no words.

i'm also so thankful that travis and DJ AM made it out of the plane that horrible night. travis is a brother to me, and since the crash he has gone through more than i can even imagine. from the day after the plane went down, when i saw him in the burn unit out in georgia, to the hospital here in LA, to seeing him at home, his recovery is nothing short of amazing. every day gets a little better. and not only is he my brother, but also the best drummer and musician i've ever seen. the man was born to play drums, and it is great to see him starting to get back into the studio and behind his kit.

as for me, i have been getting back to work as well. a couple of weeks ago i went into the studio with our lunar activities, to finish up their record. chris holmes and i recorded three more of their songs, and they are in the final mixing stage right now. then last week i went out to new york city to introduce all time low at the 2008 woodie awards for mtvu. the day i got back into town i went right into the studio with my friend richard gibbs, who scores films. he had a rough idea of a song for the movie he is currently working on, and he wanted me to come in and collaborate with him on it. we spent five straight days in the studio and came up with a really fun track for a movie called “fired up,” that comes out next year. it's good to be singing again, and getting back into it. now this week chris holmes and i are working on a theme song for a tv show. today it passed the first round of approvals, and now it goes up to the big time producer people for their thoughts. hopefully it'll be seen on a television near you very soon. check local listings.

in the midst of everything else that has happened lately, tom, travis, and i have all spoken together. first through a number of phone calls, and then a couple of weeks ago we all hung out for a few hours. they've all been great, very positive conversations. we're just reconnecting as friends after four years of not talking. it's a good thing. obviously the first question for a lot of people will be “does this mean a blink-182 reunion?” the answer is none of us know. we haven't talked about it at all. right now it's just good for the three of us to see one another, reconnect, and let the past be the past. the events of the past two months supersede everything that happened before. life is too short."

Travis Barker and DJ AM injuried in a plane crash (update)

20/09/2008

From associated press :

Back from a show at Columbia, North Carolina, Travis Barker and DJ AM were critically injured in a fiery Learjet crash that killed four people.

Officials said the plane carrying six people was departing shortly before midnight Friday when air traffic controllers reporting seeing sparks. The plane hurtled off the end of a runway and crashed through antennas and a fence. It came to rest on an embankment across a five-lane highway and was engulfed in flames, said Debbie Hersman, a member of the National Transportation Safety Board.

Two other passengers — Chris Baker, 29, of Studio City, Calif., and Charles Still, 25, of Los Angeles — died, as did pilot Sarah Lemmon, 31, of Anaheim Hills, Calif., and co-pilot James Bland, 52, of Carlsbad, according to the county coroner. Baker was an assistant to Barker and Still was a security guard for the musician.

Barker and DJ AM, whose real name is Adam Goldstein, were in critical condition at a burn center in Augusta, Ga., about 75 miles southwest of Columbia, hospital spokeswoman Beth Frits said.

UPDATE : Dr. Fred Mullins, medical director of the Joseph M. Still Burn Center, said the two suffered second- and third-degree burns but had no other injuries from the crash and are expected to fully recover.

UPDATE (09/30/2008) : Travis Barker and DJ AM both left the Joseph M. Still Burn Center after a little more than a week of treatment.

Jerry Finn is dead

22/08/2008

The producer of the blink-182's records since Enema Of The State and co-producer of the first +44 died on august, 21st.

During his career, Jerry Finn also worked with bands such as Green day (until 2001), Alkalin Trio, or Bad Religion among many. Mark posted an article entitled "Today the world became a lot less musical" :

"one of my best friends passed away today. jerry finn was one of the most talented, funniest, coolest, smartest, and honest people i've ever known. he was true in every sense of the word. true in his love of music, true in his friendships. jerry loved life. he was happiest when quietly making music he loved, and loudly making fun of everything he didn't. when i think of times spent with jerry, all i can think of is us laughing. so much laughter. he's just one of those guys with the quickest wit in the room. he also knows more about music than anyone. and i mean that seriously. he knows musicians, instruments, amplifiers, recording equipment, engineers, producers, albums, and studios like some people know sports statistics. jerry could tell you who played what instrument on which track of pretty much any album you could name, and then go on to tell you who produced it, who engineered it, in what room of which studio, and so on. it's really kind of amazing. he worked on many of my favorite albums of all time, and helped shape the sound and direction of blink-182 from enema of the state all the way through to the end and into +44. he was into family guy, south park, and mr show before anyone else had even heard of those shows. and when my son was born, while everyone else was sending us baby blankets and teddy bears, jerry and his girlfriend gave him a tiny extra small black leather jacket covered in metal studs and ramones pins.

i'm sitting here now and i don't even know what to type. i'm at a loss for words. nothing i can say will come close to describing what an amazing human being jerry was. his talent, his laughter, his love of life. every day i spent with jerry over the past ten years i feel like he taught me something new about music, or recording. or life. i think everyone who knew jerry would say the same thing. i feel blessed to have worked with and learned so much from him. but most of all i am honored to call him my dear friend. jerry, i miss you already."

Dammit cover by All Time Low

04/05/2008

Plus 44 - News - Dammit + next album cover ? According to Mark Hoppus' official blog, All Time Low performed a blink-182 cover of Dammit. For the record, Jack, one of the guitarist-singer of the band, tried a stage dive that ended up ... well huuuuh ... not like expected. Aftermath : a broken nose.

Here is the full article from himynameismark.com :
"all time low covered dammit, and at the end of the song, jack did a stage dive and this is the result. yikes. get well soon. that song cost me my voice for three weeks after recording it, and now also cost jack the use of his nose. still one of my favorite songs. it’s time to play that song again."

Plus 44 - News - Album blog update news Mark posted a new blog entry entitled "Impatience Is A Virtue" @ himynameismark.com

"for everyone like me who has been wondering what's going on with the +44's, here's the deal. this whole time we've been continuing to write and demo ideas on our own. the only thing is we've been waiting for the label to fund the recording, and this just came through. i understand everyone wondering what's the deal, and believe me a lot has happened that i haven't posted the minutia of. do you like how i ended that last sentence in a preposition? in any case, all is good. we're just guys writing songs. but we're gonna flip it this time around. now just for fun i'm going to really confuse the issue and go back to saying we're recording an electronic album with me, travis, and carol. and we're recording the album in brazil. but truthfully, thanks for the support and interest and know that we're here working as always, and as always we're creative people with a lot of ideas and energies. but nothing is closer to our hearts than recording our own music."

Mark's blog Update

04/10/2007

Plus 44 - News - Mark Hoppus blog Socratic Fever Club

Here is his post from himynameismark.com :

"+44 has been off the road for a while and man time flies when you are in the studio! been locked inside behind the neve 8014 for about the last two months.

lots going on. lots of loud noise. lots of ideas. we’re taking a break for a minute and craig and shane are hitting the road with the mercy killers. you can check out the dates here.

while they are out on tour, chris holmes and i are finishing up mixing the socratic record that we finished recording last month. the guys in the band wrote an amazing record, and really put their heart and soul into the music. i think we got some really great sounds. all kinds of different instruments and elements going on in every track. some fast rock tunes, some slower ballads, some experimental way-out songs that you would expect from socratic. and it all ties in together in a cohesive album. so stoked on the way their record is sounding. i’m very proud to be a part of it, and can’t wait for it to come out. here is a video of vinnie from the band laying down a keyboard track for the song "magazine," which is one of my personal favorites. all of the band members are great musicians, and vinnie can shred on the keys. look for him at your local piano lounge.

if you go to their myspace page you can see lots of pictures from the recording session. many of which were stolen from the very website you are at right now! these guys are also presently on tour, so check them out if you get the chance.

also, last week holmes and i started producing a new project for a band called fever club. they were formerly "the look," but had to change their name, so now they are fever club. we’re into the second week now, and have finished drums and about half the guitars, bass, and synth parts. their sound is very dancy, 80’s, keyboard and guitar rock. a fun, jumpy, frenetic record with a female singer. it is the exact opposite of the socratic record we just did, which keeps things fresh and interesting. more on them in future posts.

just this week, me and holmes got submitted for scoring a movie, so we have been assembling our own ideas for the last few days, and are supposed to meet with the music supervisors for the film next week. we’ll see what happens. hopefully we’ll get to try our hand at film scoring here in the next few months.

so yeah, +44, mercy killers, socratic, fever club, and film scoring. that’s what’s been up lately. obviously not any time available for podcasting, but hopefully we’ll get a new podcast up in the very near future. we’re kind of back on track now, but very busy and happily so."

New Mercy Killers blog entry by Craig

Plus 44 - News - Shane Gallagher Mercy Killers "New blood!

Good afternoon,

Lots of MERCY KILLERS news today! As of last night, we found a new guitar player in our good friend Shane Gallagher. Sampire and I spent the afternoon rehearsing the songs with Shane on acoustic guitars and it sounds AMAZING! Shane adds a whole new dimension to our music and even wrote some new 2nd guitar parts on the spot that are both exciting and tasteful. I'll do my best to try and get him to start a myspace so everyone can welcome him to our clan and send their blessings. Until then, heres a pic from yesterday...

In other news, for the upcoming TSOL/MERCY KILLERS tour, we have two new shirt designs. Expect them to be posted and for sale online and through mailorder early this week. Keep an eye out, we're super proud of our new designs and think you will be too. Two new shows have also been added to the tour:

10/10 - Spokane, WA @ Zombie Room (21+)
10/11 - Seattle, WA @ Studio Seven (all ages)
10/12 - Portland, OR @ Satyricon (all ages)
10/13 - Eugene, OR @ WOW Hall (all ages)
10/14 - Reno, NV @ TBA
10/16 - Tempe, AZ @ The Sets (all ages)
10/17 - San Luis Obispo, CA @ Downtown Brew (16+)
10/18 - Fresno, CA @ Club Fred (21+)
10/19 - San Jose, CA @ Blank Club (21+)
10/20 - Sacramento, CA @ TBA
10/21 - San Francisco, CA @ Slim's (all ages)

There still is no LA show on this tour, but fear not, We're working on a Los Angeles date in early November with THE BRONX, as well as some December dates with the one and only SOCIAL DISTORTION. More on these as they are confirmed.

Lastly, just to quell all the anxious fans of +44. Yes, Shane is playing guitar with MERCY KILLERS now, in *addition* to +44. Shane playing guitar with us affects nothing in regards to +44. As we have time off to write a new 44 record, I like to keep busy and play with MERCY KILLERS. And now we have another member pulling double duty with both bands, in Shane.

Incestuous? Yes. Fun and exciting? Definitely. Also expect to hear some new covers like Siouxsie and the Banshees "Into the Light", The Church "Reptile", Jov Division "Interzone", and GBH "Necrophilia."

Ladies and Gentlemen we have some new blood!

CRAIG"

No more Bumbershoot ...

01/09/2007

Plus 44 - News - Festival Bumbershoot Plus 44 won't perform at the Bumbershoot Festival.

Here is the MySpace bulletin from Craig :

"Hey everybody, for some reason there has been NO announcement what so ever, but +44 is NOT playing in Seattle tomorrow. Due to some unforeseen circumstances, we can't make it. The show should have been cancelled when we had to back out of Europe, but it wasn't. I just learned of this yesterday.

To me, canceling shows is embarrassing, and says we don't care about our fans. I can't get across how much it bums me out to have to cancel shows. Fans are what make any band be able to do what they love to do...make music. Its a unique bond in the universal language that is music and art. I value this connection with fans more than anything, and I know that everybody in +44 feels the same. With that said, I'm SO sorry we have had to cancel these shows. What can we say? Shit happens sometimes, and all we can do is try our best to make sure it doesn't happen again, no matter how much some things are out of our control.

There's a SHIT ton of amazing bands playing at Bumbershoot, be sure to check out MERCY KILLERS' label mates, the HORRORPOPS and the AGGROLITES. I think they both play on Sunday. Be sure to catch them live, they're both amazing and you won't be disappointed!

Craig"
